Hiya,

I’m the writer formerly known as Jack McBride White. I stuck the McBride in there to make my name more distinct when I published my novel, The Keeper of the Ferris Wheel, back in the nineties. It’s my Mom’s maiden name. Her Dad was Jack McBride. My Dad is Jack White. See?

I keep it there so you won’t confuse me with the rock star of the same name. We don’t look like each other, which is good, I think, at least for me. I like his music, but so far, he hasn’t commented on my writing.

I’ve mostly made my living as a technology person, writing, training, building and managing web sites, and I was recently laid off. So I decided to create a couple web sites with my wife, Andrea. One is called Laid Off at Fifty and then there’s this one. If you’re over fifty, or just cool, check out Laid Off At 50.

Andrea White designed this site. It’s her first Wordpress site. Her second Wordpress site is the very similar Laid Off At 50. Andrea’s been designing sites, mostly for her friends and former-employers, Visual Data Systems, for about as long as anyone.

Visual Data Systems was one of the very first successful Internet design firms, and Andrea was their first and most long-term designer.

But now she has her own company, Sykesville Design, and works on radical sites like this one.
